Bringing a Puppy Home:
In the first few weeks of bringing a new puppy home, many owners feel totally overwhelmed. It is best to shop for supplies such as Puppy toys, bowls, collars and accessories and puppy food, before bringing your puppy home. Puppy-proof your home making sure that all items that are within your puppies reach will not cause them harm and you more stress. Remember the three day rule for bringing puppies home, 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks for them to feel comfortable in your home and then a further 3 months for them to adjust to your homes daily routine.
Ensure that you have a space for the puppy that they can call their own, be it a crate, a basket a blanket or a special bedding play area, somewhere they can retreat to and feel secure.
Make sure you have booked your vet appointment for any vaccination requirements and if necessary, flea, tick and wormer treatments. Starting off the way you mean to carry on with setting up the correct behaviours and expectations during the initial period is essential, and this all starts with puppy obedience training classes.
There are many elements that go into choosing the correct obedience training classes for you and your puppy. Distance is certainly a consideration; but, convenience shouldn’t be the only element that influences your decision. Other things like training techniques, classes that best suit your needs, are you and the instructor compatible, and does the instructor have the correct certifications. All these factors play a role ensuring that you and your puppy have the best start on this journey together.
